News:

May 16, 2010 - Pete Dulin of Present Magazine has published a very insightful review of "Alias: Zimmerman! (Apple Sings Dylan)" -

"To Apple's credit, he gives these 26 Dylan songs a vigorous workout and presents them as a collection to absorb song-by-song and as a whole. He’s no doppelganger and isn't trying to imitate Dylan. Rather, imagine Apple as a Zimmerman, or an Everyman with the talent and chutzpah to tackle some of the most famous landmarks in the American songbook."

"While there is some faint semblance to Dylan’s master blueprint on a few tracks, Apple and his band take liberties and playfully apply a touch of reggae and ska, a soupçon of blues, country, exuberant classic rock, and piano bar gusto to their interpretations and bold arrangements."

April 30, 2010 - "Alias: Zimmerman!" is now available on iTunes. Click the icon above and you will be magically transported to Winston's page there. Other sites will have it up soon. Physical copies of the album continue to sell briskly at CD Baby, they placed a large re-order today in hopes of avoiding being out of stock again. Winston is very happy that physical copies of "Zimmy" are proving to be so popular. A couple of the blogs at DylanCover.com have now reviewed the album and "highly recommended" it.

April 23, 2010 - "Alias: Zimmerman! (Apple Sings Dylan) is back in stock at CD Baby. A little detective work has uncovered one of the sources for the strong sales right out of the box. A network of web sites devoted to cover versions of Bob Dylan songs (DylanCover.com) is linked to CD Baby and mentioned the album the day it became available on CD Baby.

April 22, 2010 - Winston's solo performance at Californo's last night turned into a duo performance a few songs into the second set when Farley Compton showed up, armed with his guitar, a mic, and his tres cool vocal harmonizer. Winston and Farley teamed up for the rest of the night, skipping the second break and playing straight through for nearly two hours. The small, but enthusiastic, crowd clearly enjoyed the performance.

April 21, 20110 - Winston was on the air with Mark Manning this morninng on KKFI (90.1 fm in KC). As per usual, there was witty conversation, a bit of humor, and several cuts from "Zimmy."

April 17, 2010 - Some good news and some bad news and some good news. The good news - CD Baby sold out of their initial inventory of "Alias: Zimmerman! (Apple Sings Dylan)" in less than 24 hours. The bad news - it is now out of stock. The good news - they have re-ordered and it will be available again soon.

April 16, 2010 - "Alias: Zimmerman!" became available through CDBaby.com today. Physical copies of the 2 disc set are available for $14.97, plus shipping. Full album digital downloads are available for $9.97. (No shipping needed.) So yes, you can save some money by going the download route, but the physical copy is an evironmentally-friendly, and very attractive digipak. Winston feels, and perhaps you agree, that an album seems more real somehow when you have a physical copy to hold and admire. On the other hand, if you prefer the digital route, it's hard to argue with 26 tracks of Dylan songs like you've never heard them before, for the low, low everyday price of $9.97. Individual tracks are available now through DigStation (see icon above) and will be available soon on CD Baby.

Winston was back in the studio at KKFI today, visiting with Rebecca Roche, who's show is called "Eclectics" for good reason. Winston is, as you may well have discerned if you've listened to enough of his music, quite eclectic himself. That may explain why he likes Rebecca's show so much.

April 15, 20110 - Winston was on the air with Eric Barr this morninng on KKFI (90.1 fm in KC) talking about "Alias: Zimmerman!" Eric played several cuts from the album. Offering readers of this page an insight unavailable to Eric's listerners, Winston reports that Eric is, at present, sporting a Grizzly Adams-style beard. The growing of such a beard is apparently a winter ritual for Eric, who may be trimming it soon.

April 13, 2010 - Winston's latest project "Alias: Zimmerman! (Apple Sings Dylan)" was released today. Note:"Released" is a relative term these days since the label/artist has little control over when various on-line sites actually have the album available.
"Alias: Zimmerman!" is a double album (26 songs) which features Dylan classics (and less well-known tunes) from the mid-sixties, re-arranged, re-interpreted, and re-imagined, filtered through Winston's unique production style: wall of sound rock, with a variety of influences: country, blues, reggae, ska, and folk.

"Alias: Zimmerman! (Apple Sings Dylan) represents a radical departure for Winston, who had recorded a total of three cover songs prior to this project.

Although he plans to continue recording songs for a couple of other upcoming albums, Winston will be cutting back a bit on time in the studio to do regular live performances in support of "Alias: Zimmerman!" and the other fine albums in his growing discography.
