AMUSING OURSELVES TO DEATH
Lyrics and music by Winston Apple
The subliminal tyranny of remote control
Eases the pain of being bought and sold
Be one with your money, g-g-g-go for the gold, yeah, yeah, yeah
(Multi-tasking) Sex, drugs, and rock and roll
From the moment that we're born, until we draw our final breath
We want to be entertained to distract us from the pain of amusing ourselves to death
Keep dancing, the music never stops
Your possessions define you, so shop until you drop
They say every dog has its day, maybe someday you'll be on top
Yeah, yeah, yeah, unless, of course, you are the biggest loser
From the moment that we're born....
Everybody lies, everybody steals
Everybody's shouting "Let's make a deal"
There is no time to think about how we feel
What do you think about that? (How does it feel?)
When you live fast, if you don't die young
Sooner or later the time will surely come
When you take stock of your life and look back on what you've done
With regret and remorse
From the moment that we're born....
So many distractions, so little time
Are we evolving according to an intelligent design
Or are we simply losing our minds
One new toy at a time?
We've got a little time left before we draw our final breath
Is it too late to change?
Can we do something more than amuse ourselves to death?
We are amusing ourselves to death
I'm not amused (I am) (So am I)
