SINNER FROM THE SKY

Words and music by Winston Apple

Woke up yesterday morning feeling pretty run-down
I heard a voice from the sky say
it was time for me to grab hold of that gospel plow
Said, "Oh no, Lord I ain't quite ready to go.
Why don't You check back with me in a day or so?"

I spent the rest of that day calling up every girl in town
Setting up appointments and having them all come to see me for awhile
I was getting pretty tired by the time the sun went sinking low
Heard that voice say, "Are you ready yet?" I said, "Lord, no!"

Well, I hit the town last night, figured I'd better have me a time
I ended up singing in my bed with some crazy, fat woman
We were just getting to the wine, when I heard that voice say,
"Hey, I'm your maker and I think its about time we met."
I pretended not to hear and I just mumbled, "Lord, I ain't ready yet."

Well, I woke up this morning feeling even more run-down
Nudged that crazy woman awake and we went a few more rounds
`bout round four, or maybe five,
I heard a heavenly choir singing sweet and soft
And the angry voice of the Lord,
saying, "Son, you're starting to piss me off!"

Well, I could feel His presence
as I ran down my street and ducked into a picture show
But He left pretty quick once He found out what was playing
It was Linda Lovelace in "Deep Throat"
I got outside He was waiting for me.
Said, "Jesus, you just blew your last chance.
Now you ain't gonna be the savior of man
And you ain't gonna get no fancy nail scars in your hands
How can you hope to save anybody else,
when you've sinned so much yourself?
Don't care if you are my son, you can burn in hell.
You can spend your time dancing with the devil himself."
