SURVIVOR: BAGHDADLyrics and music by Winston Apple Bush slipped us a mickey and marched across the Rubicon When we came to our senses our sons and daughters were gone He said, “Don’t you worry about it. They won’t be gone for long.” Now it’s more than four years later and the war drags on and on And the death count mounts climbing higher and higher How much longer will we let this go on? We toppled Saddam’s statue and had him on the run Just a few short days after the war had begun It took a good while longer to drag Spidey from his hole Now he’s been tried and hung and buried and we still haven’t gained control The bullets are still flying and the blood still flows How much longer will we let this go on? There are very few Iraqis who want us to stay And most of our troops would like to come home today So let’s be democratic, let the people have a say The TV junkies know that there’s a better way Survivor: Baghdad - Bush versus Hussein The zealot and the autocrat in a real war game It was a fight to the death and Saddam did the dying But the cards still left in Bush’s deck haven’t given up the fight Now it’s Sunni versus Shi’a, them and al Quida versus us And we’re handing out free weapons to militias we can’t trust And “Mission Accomplished” is now “Democracy or Bust!” How much longer will we let this go on? Survivor: Baghdad We’re down to the final round Let the people in the war zone vote thumbs up or thumbs down Let the people of Iraq decide democratically If they want our brand of freedom or prefer theocracy And let our soldiers in Iraq decide if Bush should be impeached Or serve out his term as our Commander-in-Chief I’d vote a big thumbs down, but it’s not up to me I will support our troops, whatever their decision may be Barring any sudden moves from the evil Kim Jong Tune in next season for Survivor Survivor: Tehran © Gary Winston Apple, 2008.
